Garden spot lights can change the dark, scary areas of your yard into a beautiful wonderland at night. All the trees and shrubs where things can go bump in the night will be bathed in soft light, giving your garden area an almost surreal glow. Why just enjoy your garden in the daytime when you can enjoy it 24/7?

Why garden spot lights?

Garden spotlights can be super easy and quick to install. In just a few minutes, the trees, flowering plants, garden statues, and fountains can all be the center of attention instead of being hidden by the cloak of darkness.

You probably spent a lot of time and money creating your garden area, and if you’re not using nighttime lighting, you’re not taking full advantage of all your hard work. You’ll be amazed at what a difference garden spot lights will make!

Types of garden spot lights

There are several different types of garden spot lights, and they can be used for different effects. The two main categories are solar and electric. Both major types have their advantages and disadvantages.

Solar garden spotlights contain a solar collector on the top of the unit, where sunlight is stored in batteries. At dusk, the lights automatically turn on, and when the sun rises the next morning, the lights automatically turn off. Solar lights aren’t usually as bright as traditional lights, but they’re incredibly easy to install because there’s no wiring or cords necessary.

Electric garden spot lights have to be wired directly to your house or plugged into an electrical outlet via a cord. This type of light is brighter than most solar lights, and you don’t have to worry about consecutive cloudy days, but you do have to bother with hooking them up to an electrical source.

Both solar and electric garden spot lights are available in several styles. One of the most popular is the staked lighting. These lights are usually small and are mounted on a stake that can be sunk into the soil. Most people who use these place them at the base of trees or plants and aim the lights upward to bathe the vegetation in light.

A more traditional type of garden spot light is mounted on your house or on a pole. It’s then aimed at your garden area. This style of spot light can be aimed from above down to specific areas in the garden, like a fountain, a statue, or your prize-winning bearded iris, for example.

Another type of garden spot light is the motion-sensor light. It’s equipped with a special device that detects movement. When movement is sensed, the light turns on automatically. If you’re more worried about security than you are about your garden’s aesthetic appeal, this is probably the kind of garden spot light you want.

Where to buy garden spot lights

Spot lights for your garden are very affordable – especially the solar type. You can often find both solar and electric spotlights at garden centers, pool and patio stores, and home improvement warehouses. Shop online stores for the widest selection of garden spot lights.
