Create Mystery with a Black Chandelier
64
A black chandelier can add drama and mystery to almost any room in your home. Since they’re rather unusual, black chandeliers are sure to be attention-grabbers and conversation starters. A black chandelier can make a powerful statement about your décor and what type of decorator you are.
Different types of black chandeliers
You can find a black chandelier in just about any size and any style. They don’t lend themselves to just any décor, but when the right marriage is made, it’s a match made in heaven!
A large wrought iron black chandelier would go well with Spanish or Mediterranean décor.
For a chic antique look, choose a large black swag pendant chandelier with black draping, a black ribbon shade, and black ornaments.
To accent a room with turn-of-the-century décor, choose a Victorian chandelier with a black finish, candle lights, black beading, and black prisms.
For a more modern look, how about a black chandelier with crystals, zebra light shades, and pink bows? What girl wouldn’t want one of those in her zebra-motif bedroom?
For a sleek, trendy look, try a black and chrome chandelier.
Where to hang your chandelier
Chandeliers can either hang directly from the ceiling or from a hook mounted to the ceiling. The direct-mounted chandeliers have to be wired into your home’s electrical wiring. Swag chandeliers are plugged into an outlet via their cord and hang from a ceiling hook. Since this type of chandelier requires no special wiring, swag chandeliers are a snap – just plug it in and hang it. Just be sure your hook or hanger is strong enough to support the weight of the chandelier.
Lighting fixtures, especially chandeliers, should match the room they light in style and size. For example, you wouldn’t place a huge, ornate chandelier in a rustic hunting lodge. Small rooms need small pendant-type chandeliers, and casual rooms need understated chandeliers.
A large ornate dining room could handle a large chandelier with dangling prisms and ornaments and would look smashing hanging over the right table.
Just use common sense when picking out your lighting fixtures. You want the chandelier to be noticed, but you don’t want the chandelier to completely overpower the room. On the other hand, you don’t want to use a tiny mini pendant chandelier in a large room. Not only would such a light not provide enough illumination, it would also fade into the background.
How much does a black chandelier cost?
Black chandeliers range widely in price. A small black pendant chandelier can be found for around $100, while a very large, ornate chandelier with black crystals might cost several thousand dollars.
Don’t let the latter scare you away. You’ll be able to find many beautiful black chandeliers for under $500.
Where to find a black chandelier
Black chandeliers are sometimes difficult to locate. Most lighting stores usually have only one or two in stock, and some stores don’t have any at all. To see the largest selection and often the best prices, shop for your black chandelier online.
