Cool Sun Blinds

Sun blinds are practically a must if you live in a climate with hot summers. In some areas around the world, the summer sun can be brutal. It can actually damage carpets, drapes, and the upholstery of furniture near windows by causing them to fade. And, of course, the sun can drastically increase the temperature inside your home, making your air conditioning system work overtime. This results in painfully high energy bills. Sun blinds, however, can help alleviate all these problems quickly and easily!
What are sun blinds?
Sun blinds, also referred to as “sun shades,” are special shades or roll-up blinds that go on the outside or the inside of your home, usually over windows. Most sun shades are made of a special perforated material that allows some of the natural light from the sun to enter your home, but the sun’s heat is kept out. The light that penetrates most sun blinds is enough to brighten a room, but not enough to be damaging to fabrics. Other types of sun blinds allow no light to enter. These are a great option if you want to darken rooms for sleeping.
Types of sun blinds
One type of sun blinds are the solar blinds that are hung inside your home, over windows. These are also called “solar blinds.” This type of sun blinds is like having sunglasses for your windows. They reduce glare, decrease the amount of heat from windows during hot weather, and protect valuable fabrics from UV light.
Another type of sun blinds include the kind you hang outside your home. These might be hung over windows or at the west end of porches, patios, or decks. These are usually roll-up blinds, made of woven weatherproof fabric. This special fabric is capable of blocking up to 90% of harmful UV rays from the sun.
Similar to the above type of sun blinds discussed, another popular type is made of American basswood. These blinds are weatherproof and are available in several different colors, all of which resist mildew. You shouldn’t have any problem finding sun blinds in a color that will blend in with your home’s exterior.
The most amazing sun blinds are the ones with automatic sensors. You decide on and set the maximum temperature, and the shades will automatically be lowered. At sundown, the blinds will automatically retract. Several of these models also have a wind sensor that will retract the sun blinds automatically to prevent them from being damaged by strong winds. If you have several sun blinds, they can be programmed together so that with just a press of a button, all the sun blinds on your house can be lowered or retracted with just a push of a button.
Where to buy sun blinds
Sun blinds are readily available at most home improvement stores and even at some Walmart stores. Before you buy, it’s best to compare prices and amenities offered with each product. For the widest selection of sun blinds, along with some great prices, shop online.
