Every home can benefit from a breakfast table. Whether you live in an apartment, condominium, townhouse, duplex, or a traditional single-family dwelling, you’ll love the convenience of having a breakfast table!
Advantages of a breakfast table
Breakfast tables are super convenient. They’re great for casual, cozy dining for a couple or a small group. And if you live alone, why sit at a great big empty dining room table?
Since breakfast tables are often found in or immediately adjacent to the kitchen, transferring food from stove or oven to table is quick and easy.
A breakfast table can also serve as a place to serve a buffet dinner or hors d’oeuvres for a party. That way, your dining room table will be freed up for seating guests. Of course, if you don’t use the breakfast table to hold food, it makes a perfect place to seat messy kids during big family get-togethers.
A breakfast table can also serve as a work space in your kitchen. You can sit down comfortably while you’re peeling or chopping vegetables or doing other types of prep work for meals.
Types of breakfast tables
No matter what your décor, you’ll find a breakfast table to match or compliment it. Even if you have a small kitchen or breakfast room, chances are good that you’ll be able to find an appropriate breakfast table.
You can find a breakfast table made of pine, oak, or other natural woods, or one made of acrylic, chrome, bronze, or some other type of metal. Shapes include round, oblong, square, rectangular, and octagonal. You can even find triangular breakfast tables for seating three people.
One popular type of breakfast table is the trestle table. Inspired by Early American furniture, the trestle table is constructed of wood and traditionally uses benches instead of chairs. When the benches are not in use, they can be stored underneath the breakfast table to free up more floor space.
Another popular type of breakfast table is the expandable table. These are usually made of wood, and they come with a removable section. When you need more room at the table, you simply insert the expansion leaf to make the table larger.
In the past few years, breakfast nooks have enjoyed a rise in popularity. This type of breakfast table includes two benches that rest against a corner wall, the table, and another dining bench. These are very homey, and they’re great for utilizing corner space.
Formica-topped breakfast tables are also making a comeback. Popular in the fifties and sixties, this type of breakfast table usually has chrome legs and a brightly colored formica top – great for a retro look.
You can find a breakfast table in any finish or color imaginable. And if you can’t find the exact color you’re looking for, buy an unfinished wooden breakfast table and finish it yourself. Paint it, stain it, stencil it, or distress it to get just the look you want.
Where to buy a breakfast table
You can find breakfast tables at furniture stores, of course, along with a few at home improvement centers and department stores. To find the best buy and the widest choice, however, shop online for your new breakfast table.
