Even if your home has a central heating system, you’ll find that bathroom heaters come in handy. Most are small and some are portable, so they can be used just about anywhere you need extra heat. The reason they’re most often used in a bathroom is pretty obvious. Bathrooms usually have cold, hard surfaces like tile or stone. When you get out of the tub or shower, you’re damp, so it’s easy to get a chill. A bathroom heater can quickly make an otherwise uncomfortably cool bathroom warm and toasty. Simply turn on the bathroom heater before bath time, and you can enjoy a nice cleansing without having to worry about facing a chilly room once you exit the bathtub or shower.

Types of bathroom heaters

Bathroom heaters come in different sizes, different heating capacities, and different styles. These include baseboard heaters, wall heaters, ceiling heaters, bulb heaters, and portable heaters. Most models are available in white, almond, and stainless steel.

Baseboard heaters fit along your bathroom baseboard. They generally range in length from 28 inches to 70 inches long. Generally speaking, the larger your bathroom is, the longer baseboard heater you’ll need. Most baseboard heaters range in wattage from 500 watts to 1,500 watts. Prices range from about $150 to $250.

Wall bathroom heaters mount on the bathroom wall. Some of these heaters have timers, and some have thermostats. Most bathroom wall heaters are low profile, so they don’t stick out very far from the wall. Prices start at around $100 and go up, depending on the size, power, and options you choose.

Ceiling heaters mount on your bathroom ceiling, so they don’t take up any floor or wall space. If you have a small bathroom and don’t have extra room to spare for a bathroom heater, this might be your best option. Some ceiling-mount bathroom heaters include an exhaust fan. Prices for these heaters start at around $190.

Bulb heaters are another great choice for small bathrooms. These mount into the ceiling and use either one or two heat bulbs. Most use 250-watt bulbs. Another advantage of bulb heaters is the price. They generally can be found for under $40.

Another type of bathroom heater is the portable model. These require no installation and are ready to use right out of the box. All you have to do is plug in the heater and turn it on. Of course, another advantage to this type of bathroom heater is that you can use them in other rooms in your home. Some of these heaters come with mounting brackets so that the heater can be hung on the wall. This makes the heater look like a permanent wall mount, while maintaining its portability. These bathroom heaters can usually be found for under $50.

Where to shop for bathroom heaters

You’ve probably seen bathroom heaters at stores like Lowe’s, Home Improvement, Walmart, and Kmart. The problem here is that you won’t have much of a selection. It’s also difficult to compare prices when actually physically shopping in stores.

For easy comparison shopping and the most selections of bathroom heaters, search online.
